JAMMU, Dec 2: In connection with ‘Wall of Shame’, initiative of Jammu Municipal Corporation, theatre group ‘Natrang’ here today staged play ‘Swacch Bharat Ka Sapna’ under the direction of Neeraj Kant.
The play, designed as a powerful street performance revolves around the theme of cleanliness, responsible waste disposal and the urgent need to adopt principles of reduce, reuse and recycle.
In a busy street where people casually throw garbage around, Pappu eats a banana and throws the peel on the road. An elderly man advises him that the street belongs to everyone but Pappu ignores. Manoj arrives, almost slips on the peel and throws it properly in the dustbin. In another moment, Pappu again displays the same careless behavior by throwing used, dirty and filthy disposable plates on the ground. The elderly man and Manoj try to make him understand how such behavior spread dirt and diseases. A child coughs because of the waste lying around and Manoj explains that habits can be changed if one understands responsibility. Pappu begins to reflect on his actions.
A few days later, Pappu undergoes a positive change. Not finding a dustbin around, he keeps his waste in his own bag instead of littering the street.
The play then shifts to another part of the town where Mohan carelessly throws a plastic bottle on the road. Suddenly, Mother Earth appears, distressed by the pollution and pain caused by humans. The Plastic Monster arrives, proudly declaring that humans create him and then suffer because he never decomposes. Suman enters with a cloth bag and reusable bottle, explaining to Mohan how to reduce plastic usage by choosing eco-friendly alternatives.
As people start understanding these concepts, the Plastic Monster begins losing his power.
The play ends with everyone united in message that a clean India is possible when every citizen participates wholeheartedly.
Artists who performed in the play were Neeraj Kant, Pawan Verma, Mohd. Yaseen, Aryan Sharma, Lovish, Aadesh Dhar, Kartik Kumar and Khushal Bhat and the music was scored by Mohd. Yaseen.
