Natrang stages “Ghumayee”

JAMMU, Oct 21: Natrang staged Balwant Thakur’s internationally acclaimed Dogri play “Ghumayee” at Police Auditorium under its weekly Sunday theatre. The play was presented by Natrang in collaboration with J&K Police and Reliance Communication.
On the occasion, inspector general of police (IGP), Dilbagh Singh was the chief guest.
The play opens with a ‘Vidai’ scene and after the solemnization of marriage and bride is being carried to her in-law’s place.  As the tough climb begins, bride asks for water and a stage comes when thirst becomes unbearable and journey is put to halt.
All and one are requested to do the needful and arrange for water. In the quest, a water source is sited but is miles deep down in a gorge. The plight of bride prompts a young man and after putting his life in extreme danger, he brings water.
As bride quenches her thirst, the young man falls dead, out of sheer exhaustion. In stuns atmosphere, ‘Baraties’ decide to continue with the journey but bride refuses to do so and declares herself a widow and cries out a wail (Ghumayee) sanctifying the significance of human relationship over the most prized relationship of marriage bound by mere rituals.
Natrang actors who outshined at the show and gave remarkable performance included Anil Tickoo, Vikrat Sharma, Tajasvi Sharma, Neeraj Kant, Sumeet Sharma, Pawan Verma, and Rahul Singh, Rohit Verma, Sajra Qadir, Rajani Bhatti, Aarti Rajput, Uplaksh Singh Kotwal, Sushil Raina, Shivam Manhas and Ashwani Bali.
The music of the play was composed by Suraj Singh and the lyrics were given by Brij Mohan. The lights were designed and executed by Suraj Ganjoo and Ankush Lakhnotra. The sound was looked-after by Mohd Yaseen. The show was anchored by Arvind Anand and coordinated by Asheish Nijhawan and Aarushi Thakur. The hall management was looked-after by Balwinder Singh, Vishal Sharma, Anita Dhar and Vikram Sharma.
