Natrang presents ‘Kya Karega Qaazi’ in Sunday Theatre

JAMMU, June 28: This Sunday, Natrang presented highly impactful performance of ‘Kya Karega Qaazi’, an adaptation of ‘The Barber of Seville’ a French play written by Pierre Beaumarchais.
The play was adapted by JN Kaushal and was jointly directed by Anil Tickoo and Sumeet Sharma. Prof SK Jain, Vice Chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra was the chief guest on the occasion.
The story of the play ‘Kya Karega Qaazi’ follows a traditional Commedia dell’arte structure, with many characters seemingly based on famous stock characters. The plot involves a ‘Nawab’, who has fallen in love at first sight with a girl called ‘Roshni’. To ensure that she really loves him and not just his money, Nawab disguises himself as a poor man, (Shameem) and attempts to woo her.
His plans are foiled by Roshni’s guardian ‘Hakim Babban Miyan’, who keeps her locked up in his house and intends to marry her himself.  Nawab’s luck changes after a by-chance reunion with an ex-servant, ‘Fakru’, who is currently working as a barber and therefore has access to the Babban’s home.
After being promised money, and being afraid that ‘Nawab’ will seek revenge on him if he refuses, ‘Fakru’ devises a variety of ways for the meetings of Nawab and Roshni to meet and talk in different disguises, The story culminates in their marriage after a series of high voltage drama.
Natrang actors who performed in the play include Rajan Thakyal as ‘Babban Miyan’, Neeraj Kant as ‘Sargam Ali’, Syed Mudassar as ‘Nawab’, Mahikshit Singh as ‘Fakru’, Kritika Singh as ‘Roshni’, Shivam Singh as ‘Qaazi and Jaage Miyan’, Chirag Anand as ‘Jawan Mard’ and Tushar Bakshi as ‘Hawaldaar’.
The music was given by Sumeet Sharma while Lights were designed and operated by Ankush Lakhnotra. Ashwini Bali did the presentations while the show was coordinated by Mohd Yaseen.
