JAMMU, July 1: National Doctors’ Day was celebrated today by various health and medical education institutions across Jammu and Kashmir to honour the unwavering dedication, selfless service and invaluable contributions of doctors towards the well being of humanity.
Minister for Health and Medical Education, Sakeena Itoo, while addressing the gathering during National Doctors Day celebrations at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura, remarked that doctors and healthcare professionals are backbone of our nation’s health system, having critical role in shaping a healthier and more resilient society.
The Minister said, “Doctors are not only healers but also pillars of hope for countless families. Their tireless service, often at great personal risk, deserves our highest gratitude.” She said that doctors play an essential role in preserving life and promoting well-being and their expertise and judgement guide us through some of life’s most critical moments.
Terming doctors as true warriors, Itoo said, “Their sacrifices are a true testament to their noble profession and it is our responsibility to acknowledge and respect the contribution of our doctors.” The Minister further said that last few years have taught us that health care is not a privilege, it is a right and our doctors are not optional, they are essential.
Director SKIMS, Dr Mohammad Ashraf Ganie; former Director, Dr M.S Khuroo; HoDs of different departments, Medical Superintendent SKIMS, doctors, medical professionals, researchers, scholars and a large number of medical students were present on the occasion.
AIIMS Jammu celebrated National Doctors’ Day with immense pride and gratitude. On this special occasion, Prof (Dr) Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director & CEO, AIIMS Jammu, interacted with faculty members and residents, acknowledging their tireless commitment, compassion, and devotion to the cause of humanity.
To mark the day, the Departments of Community Medicine and Family Medicine launched a month-long opportunistic screening program with a dedicated focus on Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD). The program aims to promote early detection and raise awareness through proactive health checks. Importantly, sample collection for the screening drive also commenced today, marking the formal rollout of the initiative.
National Doctor’s Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Government Chest Diseases (CD) Hospital Jammu. MLA Jammu West, Arvind Gupta was the chief guest on the occasion. He was accompanied by Principal GMC Dr Ashutosh Gupta (as guest of honour) and Director Health Services (Dr Abdul Hamid Zargar) and Administrator Associated Hospital Jammu, Rajkumar Katoch.
All HoDs from GMC & its Associated Hospitals along with their respective Medical Superintendents and Deputy Medical Superintendents graced the occasion. A traditional cake-cutting ceremony was organized on the occasion. The event concluded with the lunch for all the distinguished medical professionals present in the function. Earlier, a doctor’s lounge was inaugurated at CD Hospital, Jammu.
The Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Directorate of Health Services Jammu. Director Health Services Jammu Dr Abdul Hamid Zargar and all doctors from the Directorate and adjoining offices participated in the event. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Zargar said that every day, doctors prioritize the lives of others, often neglecting their own well-being. He said this day is both a celebration and a call for action to build a system where doctors are not just revered as caregivers but also protected, respected and cared for in return.
To celebrate the Day, a function was organized at Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission Charitable Hospital, Ambphalla, Jammu. On the occasion, five senior doctors were honored for their exceptional and selfless contributions within the premises of Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission Charitable Hospital. Those felicitated included Dr Subash Gupta, Dr J G Langar, Dr Kulbhushan Jamwal, Dr R C Sharma and Dr M L Gupta. The function was presided over by Anil Gupta, president of Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission and was attended by all senior functionaries of the Hospital’s governing body.
To mark the Day, GMC Rajouri organized a ceremony to honour the courageous and dedicated healthcare workers who served during Operation Sindoor. The event organized under the supervision of Principal Dr A S Bhatia witnessed the presence of top army officials from the Rajouri sector. Brigadier Poonam Raj from the Command Hospital graced the ceremony as the chief guest. During the event several key staff members who played instrumental roles during the operation were honoured. Ambulance drivers who risked their lives and continued to operate vehicles amid shelling during the crisis were also honoured.
GMC Kathua celebrated National Doctors’ Day today with great enthusiasm under the guidance of Principal Dr Surinder Kumar Atri. The event was graced by the presence of HoDs, faculty members, senior and junior residents, DNB residents and interns (MBBS) of the College. A cake-cutting ceremony was organized on the occasion.
Writers Guidance Council (WGC) led by Kashmiri doctor and columnist Dr Tasaduk Hussain Itoo, while celebrating National Doctors’ Day, paid glowing tribute to doctors for their immense role, dedication and commitment towards serving humanity. He said, “Doctors are the warriors, who are always making relentless efforts towards providing highest level of healthcare to patients to the best of their knowledge, irrespective of facing many odds and challenges in daily life.”
