SRINAGAR, Feb 22: Dozens of students had a close shave with life after fire erupted in an Islamic seminary, Dar-ul-Uloom Illahiya, here in Illahi Bagh area of city this evening.
A top official of Fire and Emergency Services Department told Excelsior that the fire emerged from third floor of the seminary. “There were around 70 students and all of them fortunately were rescued on time,” he said.
The official said that around 12 fire tenders were put on service to douse the fire but the firemen faced lot of difficulties due to non-presence of water body in the vicinity. “However, our men doused the fire and situation is under control. There is no loss of life to anyone but third floor and ceiling has been damaged,” he said.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
