KATRA, Aug 22: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi (SMVD) Narayana Super Speciality Hospital has achieved a significant medical milestone by successfully performing a Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery (RIRS) on an 8-year-old child suffering from kidney stones.
The advanced minimally invasive procedure was conducted by renowned urologist Dr Shiv K Sharma using a flexible ureteroscope. The surgery, which did not require external incisions, ensured minimal discomfort, reduced risks and faster recovery for the young patient, who is now in good health. Importantly, the procedure was carried out under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, making advanced healthcare affordable and accessible for the family.
Commenting on the success, Dr Shiv K Sharma said, “This pediatric case highlights our commitment to patient-focused care. It also demonstrates how advanced technology can provide safe and effective solutions even for our youngest patients.”
Dr MM Mathavan, Facility Director, SMVD Narayana Super Speciality Hospital, termed the achievement an important step in expanding specialized services in the region. “This milestone reflects our mission to serve the community with cutting-edge healthcare solutions,” he said.
Echoing the Hospital’s vision, Dr Yashpal Sharma, Executive Director, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME), stressed the role of institutional support. “With the backing of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, the Institute continues to advance medical excellence. This reinforces our vision of making top-quality healthcare accessible to all,” he stated.
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has been instrumental in establishing the super speciality hospital as a hub of advanced healthcare in J&K. Its continued support has enabled the Hospital to deliver specialized treatments that were earlier available mainly in larger metropolitan centers.
