NALCO initiates Rs.7500 cr 3rd phase expansion projects

BHUBANESWAR,Aug 14: The National Aluminium Company Limited(NALCO) has initiated activities for third phase Brownfield expansion at existing facilities in Odisha at an estimated investment of Rs.7,500 crore.
Disclosing this at the 31st Annual General Body meeting here, NALCO CMD B L Bagra said the proposed expansion project in included the Amperage increase at Smelter,500 MW Power Plant and 5th stream at Alumina Refinery.
Mr.Bagra said the Smelter potlines, operating at 180 KA for the last two and half decades, have been taken to enhance current to 220 KA, at an outlay of Rs.900 crore and the capacity of plant will be enhanced by 1.07 lakh to 5.67 lakh MTPA.
Preparation of Detailed Project Report and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) study  is in progress.The Company,he said had also proposed 500MW Power Plant at CPP at an estimated cost of
Rs.2,522 crore which would primarily meet the power requirement for the technology up-gradation of Smelter potlines.
The NALCO CMD further said the company has planned to add one more stream in the existing Alumina Refinery. The capacity of the stream will be 1 MTPA at an investment of around Rs.4,000 crore and the preparation of the Detailed Project Report(DPR)is already in hand.
Mr. Bagra said with the commissioning of 4th Stream of Alumina Refinery during the year, the second Phase Expansion Project of NALCO would be completed and the annual capacity of the Bauxite Mine will be increased to 63 lakh tonne per year and the Alumina Refinery to 21 lakh tonne per year
He said the upgradation of 4th Stream of Alumina Refinery, taking its capacity from 21 lakh to 22.75 lakh TPY and that of Bauxite Mines from 6.3 Million to 6.8 Million TPY, at an estimated project cost of Rs.409 crore is in progress and the project is scheduled to be commissioned  during the current year.
The Rs.338 crore Utkal-E Coal Block project which has  a mineable reserve of around 67.49 million tonnes is  also in progress with all statutory clearances  being  obtained and the activities for acquisition of land and construction of rehabilitation colony are in progress.  (UNI)
