KATHUA, June 4: Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today trapped and arrested a Naib Court official for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 in Mahanpur.
An ACB official said the accused, Selection grade Constable Sudesh Kumar, posted as Naib Courty in the court of Munsiff, Mahanpur, had allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 from a complainant to avoid filing an appeal against an acquittal order.
“After negotiation, the bribe amount was settled at Rs 8,000. Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB,” he said.
Following verification of the complaint, he said, the ACB registered an FIR number 10/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 at Police Station ACB Jammu.
Accordingly, a trap team led by a Gazetted officer was formed, which caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe in the presence of independent witnesses, said the ACB official.
The accused was arrested on-the-spot and the bribe money was recovered, he said, adding that a search was also conducted at his residence in the presence of a Magistrate and independent witnesses.
Meanwhile, further investigation is underway.
