JAMMU, Jan 4: In connection with the Prakash Utsav (birth anniversary) of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the founder of the Khalsa Panth, a grand Nagar- Kirtan (religious procession) was taken out in Akhnoor town today.
The religious procession commenced from Hanuman Chowk in the town with the Akhand Path (Recitation of Gurbani) by the Gurdwara Management Committee, Akhnoor. Hundreds of devotees participated in the procession.
The Guru Granth Sahib was placed in a specially decorated vehicle. The procession was led by Ranbir Singh, a member of the Gurdwara Management Committee. The Nagar- Kirtan was organized under the leadership of the Panj Pyaras (five beloved ones). A large number of devotees from various communities, including MLA Mohan Lal Bhagat, participated in the Kirtan.
The Nagar- Kirtan began with the beating of drums and other musical instruments, and the devotees sought the blessings of the great Guru.  In the Nagar- Kirtan, young men and women were seen walking bare-footed , clearing the path ahead of the special vehicle carrying the Guru Granth Sahib. Ragi and Dhadi groups also participated in the Nagar Kirtan, singing hymns in praise of the Guru and connecting the devotees with Gurbani (teachings of the Gurus).
Religious procession was welcomed at various intersections and routes in the town by different organizations, devotees, and community members who had set up stalls. The Nagar Kirtan passed through various markets, and the police had made tight security arrangements.  It concluded at Gurdwara Baba Sundar Singh.  The devotees were offered Prasad.
MLA Mohan Lal Bhagat said that every person should resolve to follow the path shown by Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj, who set an example for the world through his truthfulness and dedication to duty.  On this occasion, Kamaljit Singh, Kuldeep Kaur, Daljit Singh, Kulwant Singh, and others were also present.
