JAMMU, May 24: Education Minister and PDP leader Naeem Akhtar today couldn’t make it to Guwahati to attend oath ceremony of first-ever BJP Government in Assam headed by Sarbanand Sonowal.
Official sources said Naeem reached New Delhi from Srinagar but missed the connecting flight to Guwahati and, therefore, was unable to join the oath ceremony of Sonowal, who became first BJP Chief Minister in the North East today.
However, Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh attended the swearing in ceremony of Sonowal at Guwahati.
The function was attended by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, Chief Ministers of several States, Union Ministers, senior BJP leaders including Amit Shah and L K Advani.
Dr Singh while extending his greetings to the new Chief Minister hoped that he would usher the State into an era of peace and prosperity besides also accelerating developmental activities.
