JAMMU, July 14: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) celebrated its 44th Foundation Day with a commemorative event that highlighted its pivotal role in India’s rural development journey and outlined a strategic vision for the future.
The event brought together policymakers, state officials, banking leaders and grassroots innovators to acknowledge NABARD’s contributions and discuss pathways for inclusive rural growth.
A key highlight of the celebration was a panel discussion on “Fostering Rural Enterprises for Inclusive Growth,” which underscored the importance of rural entrepreneurship in driving job creation, innovation, and equitable development. The discussion emphasized that empowering rural enterprises is central to building a resilient and inclusive rural economy.
Complementing the discussion was an exhibition showcasing traditional crafts, agricultural products and rural innovations. The display reflected the diverse entrepreneurial talent present in India’s villages and the success of NABARD’s support for grassroots development.
NABARD Chairman Shaji K V addressed the gathering and reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to inclusive rural transformation. He said NABARD’s 44-year journey represents a continuous effort to strengthen rural finance, infrastructure, and innovation. “We are now focusing on scaling high-impact solutions, nurturing entrepreneurial ecosystems, and keeping sustainability at the core of all development efforts,” he stated.
M Nagaraju, Secretary, Department of Financial Services, Government of India, praised NABARD’s long-standing impact on rural India. He highlighted its crucial role in aligning with the Government’s vision of a future-ready rural economy, especially in the face of climate and digital challenges.
The event also saw the launch of several new initiatives aimed at expanding NABARD’s developmental outreach. A documentary titled “Green Roots: NABARD’s Journey towards Climate Resilience” was premiered, showcasing the institution’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and environmental stewardship.
