Mysterious death of minor in Tangmarg triggers protest

Srinagar, June 17: Mysterious death of an eight-year-old boy from Lalpora area of Kunzer in north Kashmir has sparked outrage and grief, while locals alleged that the child was murdered.
The boy, who had gone missing on June 12, was found unconscious in a field near his residence later that day. Despite being rushed to JVC Srinagar for treatment, he succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of June 17.
Relatives and local residents gathered in large number, demanding justice and a thorough investigation into the case.
“This is not just a death; it’s a brutal murder. We want the culprits to be brought to justice,” said a family member during the protest.
“The boy left home on June 12 and didn’t return. We searched for him until late at night, only to find him unconscious in a nearby field,” they added.
Meanwhile, police said that following the incident, they launched an investigation and called Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team for a scientific examination of the scene.
A 14-year-old boy has confessed his involvement in the case and has been apprehended under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act. “Two other individuals related to the accused have also been detained for questioning and the investigation is going on,” police added.
