Prabhat, along with Tuti and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Shiv Kumar Sharma, reached Panjtirthi where the operation is underway and supervised it. They camped at the spot.
Army, NSG, JKP, SOG and paramilitary forces have been carrying out joint search operations in different parts of Ghati, Panjtirthi and Billawar forests to track down the terrorists, whose number was stated to be three.
A total of five terrorists were spotted at village Sanyal in Hiranagar sector by the villagers but they managed to escape. They resurfaced at Safiyan Jakhole in Ghati forests of Kathua district last Thursday leading to heavy exchange of gun fighting in which two terrorists were killed and four police personnel were martyred.
On Saturday evening, three terrorists, one of them in injured condition, forcibly took some food from a house at village Rui.
Sources said multiple security agencies are conducting search operations at multiple places between Kathua and Billawar forests where the three terrorists are suspected to be hiding. The terrorists are reportedly trying to reach the forest areas in mountains of Billawar where the terrorists have some hideouts.
Security forces are continuing their searches to neutralize the remaining terrorists, the sources said.
With the hiding terrorists changing their locations in the jungle, the security forces have launched a multi-agency operation to track them down.
The search operation was intensified early on Monday morning with aerial surveillance and sniffer dogs being deployed, culminating into a fresh encounter in the night. A night cordon was laid to ensure that the three terrorists holed-up in the forests do not escape, sources said.
