Mughal road closed due to heavy snowfall

JAMMU, Oct 23: At least 15 to 20 vehicles have been trapped due to heavy snowfall at Pir-ki-Gali pass on Pir-Panjal mountains while Mughal road was closed to traffic by the authorities today.
An official spokesman said that on Pir Panjal and nearly 30 kms stretch  of the Mughal road experienced nearly one and half feet snow fall since early today. More snow fall and rain was witnessed this afternoon. In view of road condition, the authorities closed the road.
SDPO Surankote Javed Ahmed Mir said that onward traffic from Bafliaz has been stopped after fresh snowfall today on this road. He said nearly 15-20 vehicles said to have been trapped on either side of the Pir-ki-Gali pass. The authorities were trying to provide assistance to the trapped passengers and clear the road. At some places on the higher reaches one and half feet  snowfall has been reported.
About 30-35 odd vehicles were stopped near Bafliaz today and road clearance work has been initiated by the highway authorities. From Shopian side also the traffic movement has been stopped, he maintained.
