POONCH, May 12: Launching a vitriolic attack, former Deputy Chairman Legislative Council and Ex-MLA from Mendhar, Javed Ahmed Rana slammed Governor Satya Pal Malik for his “dilly-dallying approach to regulate traffic on Jammu- Srinagar National Highway and Mughal road which are life-line for the people of this State.
Addressing a public meeting today Rana said, earlier this month, an unprecedented notice was issued from Governor’s office stating “restriction of civilian traffic for two days a week to facilitate peaceful movement of Army convoy and polling staff. As a result, a lot of unrest and chaos soared among the passengers on the National Highway, the reverberation of which can still be sensed in general public in the form of day today protests.
“The persistent protests by people of J&K have put the veracity of Government’s intension under question and exponential increase in resentment among public has caused lot of embarrassment to the Government” Rana said.
Taking a jibe, Rana said that “In-order to hush-up the severity of situation, the Government is trying to befool people by boosting relaxation of traffic ban on Wednesday’s with effect from April 22”. The testimony of which can be observed as long queues of vehicles still stranded on national highway, Rana alleged.
“Highlighting the complete failure of the present Government to regulate traffic properly on National Highway”, he pointed towards the ” historical Mughal Road which during these days is crowded with vehicles that have diverted from the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway”. The vehicles can be seen stranded in long queues for up to 30 kms”, he further pointed.
According to official sources, “there is only one check point located at Pir Ki Gali and passengers have to wait for several hours for clearance”, he added. “As a result, a lot of resentment and disenchantment is soaring among the public as witnessed by their continuous protests” Rana, asserted. “The distress and unbridled miseries unleashed on stranded passengers is very alarming”, Rana added.
The NC leader suggested to change the checking point and reminded the Government to speed up projects Mughal Road Tunnel project and take notice of dilapidated Mughal road.
