Srinagar, Aug 27: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today urged the Government to gear up and ensure assistance to people affected by the inclement weather across J&K.
Addressing media persons at the party headquarters after a joining ceremony, Mufti also announced the postponement of the party’s scheduled district-wise protests to demand the transfer of prisoners back to J&K.
“There have been cloudbursts, landslides; damages have been suffered. The Govt must gear up and ensure the people are helped and provided the necessary assistance. The Government must ensure that they reach people including those in the far flung areas,” she said.
Mufti said that she has also directed party workers to ensure they reach affected people wherever possible.
On the occasion, Mufti welcomed advocate Bilal Nazir Mir from Rajpora, Pulwama, into the party fold in the presence of General Secretary Khursheed Alam Wani.
She further informed that they had planned peaceful district-level protests demanding the release of the “innocent” and the transfer of prisoners back to J&K, which, she said, has now been deferred.
“We wanted to present a memorandum to the CM, urging him to raise the matter with the Home Minister. The situation due to the weather has led to its postponement.”
On the NC’s claim that CM Omar Abdullah has time and again raised the issue of transferring J&K prisoners back to the UT with the Home Minister, Mufti stressed that he has never done so.
“Omar has never raised the issue with the Home Minister. You hear about Statehood every now and then; have you ever heard about it? Show me one statement.”
