JAMMU, Mar 10: President of Mission Statehood Jammu and Kashmir (MSJK), Sunil Dimple today led a protest rally along with traders and shopkeepers of Amphalla, New Plot and Janipur areas against the alleged neglect of civic infrastructure by the JMC, PWD (R&B), PHE and the Traffic Department.
A large number of traders and residents assembled on the Amphalla-Janipur High Court road and staged a demonstration highlighting the deteriorating condition of the busy road stretch. The protesters raised slogans and demanded immediate repair and blacktopping of the road, restoration of street lights and improvement in sanitation.
Addressing the protesters, Dimple alleged that the Amphalla-New Plot-Tali Morh-Janipur High Court road, considered one of the most important and frequently used routes in Jammu city, was in a severely damaged condition, causing daily traffic jams and inconvenience to commuters, including advocates and judges visiting the High Court.
He claimed that dug-up roads, damaged manholes and poor maintenance by the concerned departments have worsened the situation, leading to frequent accidents as vehicles and two-wheelers slip on the broken surface.
Dimple also criticized the functioning of the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), alleging that instead of addressing civic issues such as sanitation, drainage and street lighting, the authorities were focusing on penalizing traders and carrying out demolition drives.
Warning the authorities, Dimple said that if the Amphalla-Janipur High Court road is not blacktopped within 15 days and traffic issues are not resolved, he along with traders would ‘gherao’ the offices of the JMC Commissioner, PWD Chief Engineer and PHE Chief Engineer and stage a dharna there.
