MS, MOs, staff nurses of DH Shopian fined for negligence

SRINAGAR, Mar 21: Days after a 6 year-old-girl was given expired injections at District Hospital Shopian, the District Magistrate Shopian today imposed a fine on the Medical Superintendent of the hospital along with 2 doctors and several staff nurses.
Following the incident that surfaced a few days ago, the District Magistrate Shopian had ordered an inquiry and the ACR, Shopian and CMO Shopian were directed to submit a report along with the recommendations within one day.
In an order which was issued by the DM, it has been stated that there was medical negligence on the part of the district hospital authorities.
“Medical Superintendent being the head of the institution should have put in place a proper mechanism for the medicines being administered to the admitted patient with the maintenance of consumption register, expiry medicine register and the medical store diary,” the order reads.
It underlines that no action on part of the Medical Superintendent against the negligent staff “speaks about the negligence of the hospital administration.”
“It is ordered that the officers; Medical Superintendent and Mohd Yaseen (MO), Zubair Ahmad (MO) in charge of the SNCU, are fined with two days salary. The Nurse in charge of SNCU on the incident day, namely Roziya Mushtaq (FMPHW), is attached with the BMO office Shopian and furthermore, BMO Shopian would submit a comprehensive report with regard to the role of the nurse in the instant matter for further course of action,” the order reads.
As per the order, the staff nurses namely Sheema, Zulfi, Sabi Jan, Ulfat Jan and Rubina Akhtar are fined to the tune of two days salary each. “Moreover, the officers involved should not repeat such things in future and are hereby warned of the same,” the order states.
