JAMMU, July 25: The Motor Parts Dealers Association (MPDA), Transport Nagar today submitted a formal request to the Divisional Commissioner, urging the immediate construction of two flyovers in the Jammu South region to alleviate severe traffic congestion and infrastructure challenges faced by residents and commuters.
In a handout issued to the media, the association highlighted the daily hardships endured by the people of Trikuta Nagar Colony, Channi Himmat Colony, Transport Nagar, Fruit Mandi and areas around the bypass road.
The MPDA stated that traffic congestion during peak hours has become unbearable, with commuters taking up to 90 minutes to travel distances that should take only three to five minutes.
The MPDA proposed the construction of two specific flyovers including, one flyover from the office of the Divisional Commissioner to the gates of Transport Nagar and Fruit Mandi, extending towards the Jammu Bypass road.
The second flyover is sought to connect the Trikuta Nagar Extension to Channi Himmat Colony, adjacent to the cremation ground of Channi Himmat.
This stretch of road, which also crosses over railway lines, has never been blacktopped and remains unusable for most of the year.
The responsibility for the road’s maintenance has been passed back and forth between the Railways and local civil departments, leaving the area underdeveloped.
The MPDA emphasized that only with the “dynamic leadership and coordination” of the Divisional Commissioner can these long-pending infrastructure projects be realized.
They urged the administration to bring together the concerned departments, including Railways, PWD, PHE, JMC and UEED, for a coordinated and swift resolution.
