JAMMU, Feb 14: Motor Parts Dealers Association (MPDA), Transport Nagar (Jammu) organized a meeting under the chairmanship of Rajinder P Kakkar (president). A large gathering of shopkeepers and stakeholders voiced their concerns, urging immediate action from civil authorities and law enforcement agencies.
The primary issue discussed was large-scale illegal encroachments at Transport Nagar, particularly from the SDPO South office to Yard Number 7. These encroachments by rental workshops, accessory shops, and scrap dealers obstruct traffic flow. The Association demanded weekly anti-encroachment drives by JDA, JMC, Traffic Police, and other agencies. They emphasized strict penalties, confiscation of materials, and ground rent charges to curb further encroachments.
Another concern was the unhygienic conditions at the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT), where abandoned vehicles and unauthorized structures hinder JMC’s cleaning efforts. The Association recommended a shed for sanitation workers and a designated garbage dumping site for efficient waste management.
The meeting also highlighted the dire need for improved drinking water supply in Transport Nagar. Missing pipelines in Yard Number 1, 4, and 6 remain unresolved despite repeated complaints to the PHE Department.
Lastly, concerns were raised about maintaining newly constructed deep drains and nallahs, requiring monthly desilting. The Association noted a lack of coordination within JMC’s transport division and called for immediate rectification.
Prominent members present included Sanjay Dogra, Sham Parshad Gupta, Mohinder Singh, Deepak Daftari, Jaswinder Singh, Naresh Gupta, Sudhir Bakshi, Raman Gupta, and Sham Singh Bhau. The Association urged swift action to resolve these longstanding issues for the betterment of Transport Nagar.
