SRINAGAR, Dec 15: Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha, Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan, has written to Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw, seeking the inclusion of Anantnag Railway Station as a scheduled halt for the Vande Bharat Express.
In his letter, Ramzan highlighted Anantnag’s significance as a major administrative, commercial and tourism hub of South Kashmir, serving a large population from adjoining districts.
He noted that although the introduction of Vande Bharat services in J&K has considerably improved rail connectivity, the absence of a halt at Anantnag has caused inconvenience to passengers who depend on the station for regular travel.
Describing Anantnag as the “Gateway to South Kashmir,” the MP underscored its vital role in tourism, horticulture and trade.
He said that providing a stoppage at the station would enhance connectivity, promote tourism and contribute to strengthening local economic activity.
Ramzan has urged the Railway Minister to consider the long-pending public demand and approve Anantnag Railway Station as a scheduled stop for the Vande Bharat Express.
He expressed hope that the request would be favourably considered in the larger public interest.
