JAMMU, Jan 28: Member of Parliament and additional general secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), Chowdry Mohammad Ramzan, today attended a meeting of floor leaders of the INDIA Alliance, where he reiterated his party’s firm, principled and unwavering support to the opposition bloc.
During the deliberations, Ramzan said the JKNC has consistently stood shoulder to shoulder with the INDIA Alliance, guided by a shared commitment to the Constitution, secular values and democratic norms. He underlined that the Party’s support to the alliance has remained steadfast and unconditional, even during politically challenging and adverse circumstances.
In return, the JKNC MP said, the party expects alliance partners to demonstrate similar solidarity by sincerely highlighting and raising the pressing concerns of J&K. He specifically appealed to larger alliance partners, including the Congress, DMK, Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress and other prominent leaders within the alliance, to ensure that the political, developmental and social issues of J&K are forcefully articulated in Parliament.
Ramzan also drew attention to the continuing democratic challenges in J&K, stating that despite the conduct of elections after a prolonged gap, real authority continues to remain concentrated under the Lieutenant Governor’s rule. He observed that the prevailing system of dual control has led to the marginalization of the elected Government, thereby weakening the spirit of federalism and undermining the democratic mandate of the people.
Expressing confidence in the collective strength of the alliance, Ramzan said he expects INDIA bloc partners, particularly those with greater speaking time and parliamentary presence, to extend full cooperation in raising the concerns of J&K in the true spirit of alliance unity and constitutional responsibility.
