RAJOURI, Nov 26: Member of Parliament, Mian Altaf Ahmed today reviewed the ongoing road construction and upgradation works on the Akhnoor–Rajouri and Rajouri to Thannamandi road.
He was accompanied by senior officers of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) during the visit, which was held in response to the persistent public outcry over the deteriorated condition of the road.
During the inspection, MP personally reviewed the status of the Akhnoor–Rajouri road, a vital lifeline connecting the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch with the Jammu region.
He issued firm directions to BRO authorities to expedite all pending work and ensure timely completion of the ongoing project components.
The MP also reviewed the progress of the tunnels, after which BRO assured that two out of the three tunnels will be opened for public use shortly, while the remaining tunnel will also be completed soon.
Later, Altaf Ahmed travelled from Rajouri to Thannamandi, inspecting all critical spots along the route.
He directed the concerned authorities to immediately make the road from Darhali Bridge to Darhali Morh feasible and macadamise the stretch on priority.
The MP also inspected the entire road up to Thannamandi, accompanied by SDM Thannamandi, where several long-pending issues were highlighted.
BRO officials assured him that all remaining works will be completed soon.
Speaking on the occasion, MP Altaf Ahmed said, “The pending issues related to land acquisition will be taken up with the Divisional Commissioner Jammu for early redressal, ensuring that the project progresses without administrative delays.”
He reaffirmed his commitment to improving connectivity and easing the hardship of the people of Rajouri and Poonch.
