Mother, son among 3 dead, 8 injured in accident

KATHUA, Dec 29: A young lady and her 11 year old son were among three persons killed while eight others  were injured in a road mishap due to the sheer negligence of bus driver at Chadwal Morh near here this afternoon.
According to reports, a high speed passenger bus bearing number JK02AC 1675, which was on its way from Jammu to Kathua while reaching Chadwal Morh hit a tipper bearing number JK08B-7397which was parked on Jammu-Pathankote National Highway resulting into the death of two persons and injury to nine others.
Reports said that bus driver accelerated the speed to pick up the passenger after seeing another bus was following him. While reaching Chadwal Morh, the driver instead of controlling the speed took a sharp turn in order to pick up more passengers but the bus hit a tipper which was parked on the Highway. The left side of the bus was completely damaged resulting into the death of a young lady and her nine year old son while nine passengers were injured.
The dead have been identified as Sukhdevi, 38 wife of Sanjay Kumar, resident of Ghagwal and her nine year old son Nikhil and Naresh Kumari wife of Raghubir Singh, R/o Shiva Nagar, Kathua.
While the mother-son duo died at Chadwal, Naresh Kumari breathed her last at GMC Jammu later.
Another son of the lady identified as Sahil Kumar was injured in the accident. The other  injured passengers have been identified as Beerta Sharma, wife of Parshotam of Kalashpur, Kathua, Kartika W/o Shashi Paul and her 16 year old son Raghu of Narot Jaimal Singh Pathankote, Punjab, Gurav Abrol S/o Surinder Kumar of Kathua, bus conductor Charanjit Singh, S/o Bachan Singh of Beeru Chak, Chadwal, Diksha Sharma , D/o Rishi Sharma of Shiv Nagar, Kathua, Naresh Kumari , W/o Raghvir Singh of Shiv Nagar Kathua and Rakesh Kumar S/o Raja Ram of Kalibari Kathua. Besides one more person, was injured in the mishap whose identity is unknown yet.
The drivers of the bus as well tipper managed to flee from the spot. The dead bodies have been kept in mortuary at SDH Hiranagar for postmortem which will be conducted tomorrow morning while all the injured except Rakesh Kumar were shifted to GMC Jammu for treatment. The Chadwal police has registered a case and started search of the two drivers. Both the vehicles were also seized by the police.
The people in Kathua have expressed their resentment against the increasing road mishaps on National Highway due to the negligence of drivers and failure of the Traffic Police and other regulatory bodies to maintain a proper check on speed and wrong driving.
The irate people said the passenger buses and other vehicles never follow the by-lanes while parking their vehicles resulting into the road accidents.
The people said that yesterday a youth died in road mishap in Kathua evoking a public protest. Today also the accident took place at Chadwal near SDPO office and Police Post.
They said that Police as well as Traffic Police have failed to check the growing accidents, which has been a cause of concern for the people.
