CHENNAI, March 23: Moroccan National Tourism Office will be focusing on the Indian movie industry, corporates to have their movie shoots and meetings/conferences in the North African country, said a senior official.
He also said the Moroccan National Tourism Office is targeting to increase the number of Indian tourists to Morocco to one lakh soon.
“India is the fastest growing market for Morocco tourism. The main tourists market for Morocco is western Europe,” said Jamal Younes Kilito, Country Manager, India. According to Kilito, talks will be held with the Indian movie producers and directors to consider Morocco as their shooting locale.
The Moroccan government offers 30pc tax rebate on eligible expenditures. Further, the country has the latest movie equipments which can be hired by the Indian movie industry instead of lugging them from India, said Neeti Sharma, Director, Intrepid Marketing and Communications Pvt Ltd, the Indian travel and tourism representative for Morocco National Tourism.
It learnt, to avail the tax rebate the movie production should spend about $10 lakh and shoot for about 18 days.
Kilito said in 2024, 40,960 Indian tourists visited Morocco and the number went up to 53, 697 in 2025. Morocco has its own special cuisine and also there are several Indian restaurants there.
While there are no direct flights from India to Morocco now, it will become a reality when the number of Indian tourists touch one lakh per year, officials said.
Kilito also said with Morocco co-hosting the 2030 Football World Cup, development of hotels, stadium and other infrastructure are happening.
