Mohan Singh’s Dogri play ‘Dana Sochoo Toh Saeyiee’ enthralls

JAMMU, Dec 14: On the seventh day of the ongoing annual theatre festival, organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Mohan Singh’s Dogri play ‘Dana Sochoo Toh Saeyiee’ enthralled the audience at the Abhinav Theatre here today.
Directed by Javed Gill and presented by Society for Environment, Education and Modern Arts, the plot of the play revolves around a middle class family comprising of always-fighting parents, one married son and his wife, unmarried son and daughter. The constant nagging between the parents starts worrying the otherwise obedient younger generation in the home. The hell breaks loose when the father on his own finalizes the engagement of the unmarried son and the mother fixes match for her daughter. The younger lot, with the help of their father’s friend makes the parents realizes how their clash of egos is going to harm the future of their children. The play ends with parents seeing the light of reason and agreeing to fulfill the aspirations of their children.
The highlight of today’s play was the very well written script full of native expressions in form of idioms, maxims and puns bestowed an earthy realism to the story. The comic one-liners further spiced up to family drama. The cast, comprising mostly of new faces, not only successfully enacted their respective roles but also a whole some entertainment to the audience.
The cast included Neeraj Khatri as father, Barkha Thakur as mother, Javed Gill as Jalim gave noteworthy performances. Others who acted included Jan Mohammad as Kranti, Neha Raina as Santosh, Abdul Razak Bhatti as Agya, Sayra as Rani, Sunil Mehra as Askok, Sohan Verma as Sach Dev and Som Nath Azad as Parshotam.
The set was designed by  Gagan/ Rahul, make-up by Abhishek Bhatt/ Rohit Chib, lights by Ravinder Sharma, music by Surinder Singh Manhas. Tomorrow Natraj Natya Kunj will stage Kumar A Bharti’s Dogri play Blood and Beauty under direction of Abhishek Bharti.
