JAMMU, Sept 3: Padma Shri Mohan Singh Slathia, a renowned Dogri folk singer and composer, was conferred with the prestigious Kunwar Viyogi Sahitya Kala Samman 2025 at Dogri Sanstha, Karan Nagar, Jammu.
The award, instituted by the Kunwar Viyogi Memorial Trust (KVMT), recognises lifetime contributions to Dogri literature, culture, and arts.
Padma Shri Mohan Singh Slathia has dedicated his life to preserving Dogri folk music and traditions, carrying the cultural essence of Duggar to national and international stages.
The Trust honoured him for his remarkable role in keeping alive Dogra heritage through music and storytelling.
Accepting the award, Slathia recalled his association with Kunwar Viyogi and praised his literary contributions.
Alongside, the Kunwar Viyogi Sahitya Puraskaar 2025 was awarded to Vipin Upadhaya for his diverse contributions to Dogri literature.
Beginning with his poetry collection “Laaltain Part 1”, he later wrote for children, explored Ghazals, and edited “Mandali Patrika”, highlighting his commitment to regional literature.
The event began with a lamp-lighting ceremony, followed by an address from Padma Shri Lalit Mangotra, President of Dogri Sanstha, who lauded the Trust for completing a decade of service to Dogri culture.
KVMT founder Poonam Singh Jammwal shared the Trust’s vision of introducing Dogri writers into school curricula and creating economic opportunities linked to the language.
Dr Ritu Singh, the Chief Guest, commended the Trust’s efforts to preserve Dogri while blending tradition with innovation.
A Kavi Goshthi featuring noted poets added lyrical flavour to the evening.
Trust Chairman Goverdhan Singh Jamwal assured continued efforts to promote Dogri and strengthen partnerships for its growth.
Meanwhile, in a statement, the Kunwar Viyogi Memorial Trust said that the Utsav celebrations will continue with the much-anticipated “Jashn-e-Viyogi” Ghazal Concert at Abhinav Theatre, where noted singer Dr Radhika Chopra will present an exclusive repertoire, including renditions of Kunwar Viyogi’s works.
