NEW DELHI, Sept 3: In a major rejig, wherein Prime Minister Naren-dra Modi reshuffled portfolios of most of his Ministers, one important exception was Dr Jitendra Singh whose status-quo was maintained as such, because the Prime Minister was not in favour of shifting him out of the PMO. Sources refer to this as reiteration of PM Modi’s faith and trust in Dr Jitendra Singh as MoS in his office.
Pertinent to mention here that Dr Jitendra Singh, who continues to be Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (Independent Charge), MoS PMO, DoPT, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, was actually tipped for promotion as a Cabinet Minister in view of his report card showing him among the top performers. However, the allocation of a Cabinet berth to him meant that PM Modi would have to identify some other Minister to be MoS PMO because that is an assignment which cannot be held by a Cabinet Minister, for reasons of protocol.
When asked, Dr Jitendra Singh said, it is a matter of pride to enjoy the trust of Prime Minister and a privilege to be a member of Team Modi.
Meanwhile, TV channels lauded Dr Jitendra Singh for his diligent, non-controversial performance as a Minister while, at the same time, remaining steadfast in his ideological beliefs. They also referred to his commendable work as DoNER Minister, which had brought Northeast at the centre-stage of national focus.
