GANGTOK (SIKKIM), Jan 18: Addressing a meeting of BJP workers here, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a special focus for peripheral States like Sikkim and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Karyakartas can be the instrument of change and development.
Earlier,on his arrival for the meeting,Dr Jitendra Singh, who is currently on a tour of Sikkim, was accorded a warm welcome by the BJP State unit led by the State President N.Chouhan, State Gen Secretary (Org.) Yadav ji , State Gen Secretary Shayamal Pal,office bearers of Mahila Morcha, Yuva Morcha and others.
Reassuring the party workers about the BJP central leadership’s special concern for the State Unit, Dr Jitendra Singh said, even though the State of Sikkim is very small both in population and area, it is commendable that the BJP membership has considerably increased in the last few years. As an Opposition Party in the State, BJP not only has to discharge the role of a ‘watchdog’ against the lapses of the ruling Party, but has also to emerge as a viable alternative for the voter during the next Assembly Elections scheduled for 2019.
After listening to the views of State Party leaders and workers, Dr Jitendra Singh said, issues like corruption and discrimination need to be addressed through a proper strategy for which the Party Unit will be required to gather evident information and at the same time, also make the public aware, so that the young voter feels convinced enough to throw his lot behind the BJP.
Expressing concern over high incidence of suicides among the youth in the State, Dr Jitendra Singh said the Party can, through its different platforms, initiate campaigns at social level which would later also offer political dividends.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, BJP is a cadre-based organization and its biggest asset is that it is supported by a strong ideology based on nationalism and patriotism. It is therefore up to all of us to understand how best we can put to use the enormous intellectual, physical and nationalistic resources of the “Sangathan”, he said. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP National President Amit Shah, this is one of the best times happening for the Party and Sikkim should also not miss this opportunity, he added.
