KISHTWAR, Feb 19: Accusing Modi Government of playing with the sentiments of people of Jammu & Kashmir over the most popular demand of restoration of Statehood, JKPCC chief Tariq Hameed Karra has said it is very serious issue that people are losing faith in the institution of Prime Minister and Home Minister, due to non-fulfilment of public commitment.
Addressing a workers’ convention at Kishtwar today, alongwith a team of senior leaders including– Tara Chand, Raman Bhalla, Ch Lal Singh, Ravinder Sharma, Naresh Gupta, DCC president Asif Naqeeb, PL Shan, Sheikh Irshad, Sheikh Zaffrullah and others, Karra said that the offices of Prime Minister and Home Minister are institution and any word spoken by them is considered an honest commitment and honor attached to the institution. But the way people’s faith is being betrayed, is a breach of trust, having far reaching consequences for times to come.
Karra said elections in J&K were held on the directions of Supreme Court only otherwise the Centre was not sincere to hold polls and restore democracy despite lapse of more than five years.
Reminding further, he said there was another direction for restoration of State as soon as possible but the Centre is not obeying that, for which Congress is fighting on every occasion in all possible manner and shall take it to logical conclusion, he added.
“We fought this election in coalition and after results Congress was invited to join Cabinet but we decided to stay back, on the principled stand of Statehood but our leadership took a right decision, as we knew that Government will be incomplete without powers of Statehood and today we feel our stand vindicated, as the elected Government is not being allowed to take even small decisions in public interest.
He asserted that Statehood is our right and we are not going to beg for restoration of our right, dignity, identity and status but shall fight for it, while seeking people’s support, who responded enthusiastically, to take to streets if required.
Justifying the demand of people of Kishtwar and adjoining districts of Chenab region regarding free or subsidised and uninterrupted power, Karra said Government should consider the demand for a suitable mechanism in this regard.
On the organisational front, he asked for encouraging and developing second line leadership. To promote second line leadership, their credibility amongst people and utility in the party and winning capacity of elections shall be sole criteria, he added.
On this occasion, PCC president felicitated the veteran Congress leader Haji Hassan Mir who served the party for long time as Block president Kishtwar.
