JAMMU: Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi today asked the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to protect the citizenship rights of women in the State.
“Women should be given equal rights at par with men,” Mr Modi said while addressing a ‘Lalkar Rally’ of over one lakh people in this winter capital of the State.
He said, “not politics of ‘dividing’ but ‘uniting’ people develops the State.”
Mr Modi queried that whether the rights enjoyed by Mr Abdullah were given to his sister Sara also, who was married outside the State.
Sara is married to Congress leader and Minister of Corporate Affairs Sachin Pilot.
“If he could not protect the rights of his sister then how he will secure your rights,” Mr Modi said and added that it is not the fight of Hindus and Muslims but a matter of rights, which should be equally given to every citizen of the country.
The BJP leader said that the politics of discrimination is being done in all the three regions of the State.
“It is time to unite and once you (people) are united, then no power can stop you from changing your destiny,” he added.
While talking about China, Mr Modi said, “China is distributing free SIM cards and mobiles to the populace living close to remote belts of Indo-Sino border, which is connecting them with China,” adding, “it is a threat to our national security. Why no prompt action has been taken so far by the Telecom Ministry in this context.”
He further said “The Government in Delhi is in ‘slumber sleep’ and I feel that they will not even wake up in 2014.”
“Had they not been in ‘slumber sleep’, Sarabjit Singh would not have been killed in Pakistan Jail like Chamel Singh of Jammu was killed,” he added and said that if they had acted swiftly after Chamel’s death, Sarabjit Singh could have survived.
Mr Modi, however, also demanded Rs 1 crore, compensation for Chamel Singh from the J&K Government and a job to one member of the family likewise Punjab Government provided to the family of Sarabjit Singh.
Thanking the people of State for participating in large in the ‘Lalkar Rally’, Modi said that none of the leaders in this State might have got chance to see a huge crowd in a rally.
Modi also reminded Dogra Ruler Maharaja Hari Singh and termed him as a visionary man. He saluted Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and Pandit Prem Nath Dogra for their sacrifices on this land of Dogras. (AGENCIES)
