MLC survive bid on life, CRPF guard killed, another injured in Kashmi

SRINAGAR : A ruling National Conference (NC) Member of Legislative Council (MLC) survived a bid on his life while, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) guard was killed and another injured in a militant attack in south Kashmir, where a constable of State police was killed earlier during the day.
Hours after killing a police constable at Bijbehara in Anantnag district, militants struck again in south Kashmir attacking a ruling MLC Showkat Ahmad Ganie, who had gone to village Awneera Shopian to attend a marriage party.
Sources said militants, who had reportedly came on a motorcycle, opened fire near the house in which Ganie was sitting.
A CRPF jawan was killed and another was wounded, they said adding militants later took away service weapons of CRPF personnel.
However, the MLC escaped unhurt in the attack as he was inside the house at the time of attack.
A massive hunt has been launched to nab the militants, they said.
Earlier militants killed a constable of state police at  Bijbehara.
Inspector General of Police, Kashmir range, A G Mir said  the deceased constable was part of a patrol party.
However, the jawan went to a nearby hotel for drinking water when the attack on him took place.
Mr Mir said there are 150 militants, both local and foreigners, operating in the Kashmir valley.
