JAMMU, Jan 22: MLA Jammu West Arvind Gupta and MLA Bishnah Dr Rajeev Kumar Bhagat today met Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at Civil Secretariat here to discuss key issues of their respective constituencies.
Arvind Gupta, during the meeting with CM, emphasized the urgent need for improvement in Public Health Engineering (PHE) infrastructure, addressing the shortage of drinking water, upgrading school education facilities and ensuring better basic amenities for the residents.
Highlighting the dilapidated condition of roads, erratic power supply, and sanitation issues, Gupta urged the CM to direct the concerned departments for swift action. He also raised concerns regarding the lack of adequate teaching staff and infrastructure in Government schools.
“The people of Jammu West have been suffering since decades due to inadequate water supply, poor road conditions, and lack of proper educational facilities. The Government must take immediate steps to resolve these long-pending issues to ensure a better standard of living for the residents,” said Arvind Gupta.
MLA Dr Rajeev Kumar Bhagat submitted a detailed memorandum to CM highlighting the region’s pressing concerns, including the waiver of electricity bills for weaker sections, improvement of the irrigation system and upgradation of PHC Arnia to an Emergency Hospital. He emphasized the importance of upgrading the PHC to better cater to residents of the Arnia sector, who often face challenges during emergencies caused by cross-border shelling.
The MLA also advocated for the creation of a new degree college in Arnia to provide educational opportunities for the youth in border villages. Dr Bhagat further sought the sanctioning of two critical bridges-one on the Arnia to Shera Chack Road and another over the AIK Nallah, with approaches at village Shahpur Brahamana-under the NABARD scheme. He also proposed the establishment of sports stadiums in Bishnah and Arnia, along with a special package for the beautification of these towns.
Other demands presented include the sanctioning of ENT, Orthopaedic and Dermatologist posts at SDH Bishnah, as well as the bifurcation of ration cards to address public grievances effectively.
The Chief Minister gave a patient hearing to both MLAs and assured that necessary steps would be taken to address their concerns.
