JAMMU, Feb 14: The Directorate of Tourism, Jammu, organised Maha Shivratri Mela at historic Peer Kho Shrine and at Ransoo Shivkhori, Reasi.
The four-day festivities for Maha Shivratri Mela at Peer Kho Cave Temple, organised by the Directorate of Tourism, Jammu in collaboration with district administration Jammu, were inaugurated today by the chief guest, Yudhvir Sethi, MLA Jammu East.
BJP J&K vice president, Priya Sethi; Director Tourism Jammu, Dr. Vikas Gupta; Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Jammu, Anusuya Jamwal; Deputy Director Tourism, Savita Chouhan; Shashi Khajuria, Coordinator, Peer Kho Temple and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Sethi underscored the significance of Maha Shivratri Mahotsav and invited the public to join in the celebrations.
Director Tourism, Vikas Gupta informed that the Tourism Department would organise multiple events during the four-day Mela, featuring cultural programmes.
ADC, Ansuya Jamwal informed that the four-day religious and cultural event will feature devotional programmes, cultural performances and various departmental stalls to attract devotees and visitors from across the region.
“Religious performances and cultural programmes will also be organised on February 15 and 16, while a traditional wrestling event (Dangal) is scheduled for February 17,” she said.
Mahant Rajinder Nath of the temple extended Maha Shivratri greetings to the people of Jammu and urged them to visit the temple to seek blessings of Bhagwan Shiva.
Meanwhile, the three day Maha Shivratri Mela was also inaugurated with religious fervour at Ransoo Shivkhori, Reasi by MLA Reasi, Kuldeep Dubey, who lit the ceremonial lamp in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Nidhi Malik; DDC Member Pouni, Kewal; ADDC Reasi, Sukhdev Singh Sambyal; ADC Reasi, Rakesh Kumar; Deputy Director Tourism, Mamta Sharma; Annie Jamwal, Accounts Officer and other officers of Tourism Department and District Administration.
Earlier, a grand Shobha Yatra and cultural procession was taken out from Tridev Hotel to Darshani Deodi. The inaugural day featured captivating cultural presentations, including Shiv Vivah and Shiv Tandav along with devotional songs by renowned singers.
The twin celebrations at Peer Kho and Ransoo Shivkhori witnessed enthusiastic participation from devotees, local residents and visitors.
