JAMMU, Mar 2: MLA Akhnoor Mohan Lal today carried out a surprise inspection of Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Akhnoor to review the functioning of healthcare services and take stock of public grievances.
The legislator reached the hospital at around 11:15 am and interacted directly with patients standing in long queues outside the OPD. Expressing displeasure over delays in the OPD registration process, he took serious note of complaints regarding the difficulties being faced by elderly, less-educated and economically weaker patients due to the online registration system, particularly those without smartphones.
He directed the hospital authorities to ensure that an effective offline registration mechanism remains operational until the online system becomes accessible and user-friendly for all sections of society. He also objected to the engagement of interns for handling the online registration counters and asked the authorities to deploy proper staff for the purpose.
During the inspection, the MLA checked the attendance of doctors in the OPD and later visited the Ultrasound Laboratory where patients complained of a waiting period extending up to three months. He held detailed discussions with the radiologist and instructed that, until additional staff or machinery is sanctioned, immediate steps should be taken to enhance efficiency and reduce the waiting time with the available resources.
He also inspected the X-ray and Dental X-ray units and directed that patients must be provided X-ray films without any inconvenience. The biometric attendance of doctors and staff was verified on the spot. Taking cognizance of doctors and paramedical staff attached outside the hospital, he stressed that all staff must remain in proper uniform during duty hours.
The MLA asked the hospital administration to prepare a comprehensive list of essential equipment and other items required for improving patient care and assured that the necessary equipment would be procured from his Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to strengthen healthcare facilities at the hospital.
