MLA lays foundation stone for footbridge

BANIHAL, Mar 17: MLA Banihal, Sajjad Shaheen here today laid the foundation stone for Forwagan-Kaskoot steel footbridge at Shafa Pani.
Shaheen was accompanied by BDO Banihal, Hyder Ali besides officials of RDD and prominent locals.
The steel footbridge is being constructed by the Rural Development Department (RDD) at an estimated cost of Rs. 25.22 lakh and it will reconnect several villages that have remained cut off since the previous structure was damaged in the devastating floods of 1992.
Official sources said that the bridge will benefit about 10,000 residents of Forwagan, Kaskoot, Zinhal, Chachal, Harbair, Wanpora, Railway Colony and Ashar villages.
Speaking on the occasion, the MLA said that the project fulfils a long-pending demand of the local population and will significantly ease mobility, especially for the students, patients and daily commuters.
He added that the bridge will also improve access to the nearby railway station, thereby strengthening connectivity and facilitating socio-economic growth in the area.
Locals present on the occasion expressed gratitude to the MLA for addressing their long-standing demand.
