POONCH, Dec 15: The road work, which will be followed by the building of Government Degree College Mandi, was kick-started by MLA Haveli Ajaz Ahmed Jan in presence of many other prominent people at Rajpura in Mandi area here today.
Sources revealed that even after sanction in 2014 the work on Government Degree College Mandi was not started. The officials said that it takes time for the identification of land. The process was not taken up to the point where it could be brought closer to the construction. Later, Education Minister, Sakina Itoo laid the foundation stone in August this year, the tender was floated at that time.
The Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also expressed anger in his review meeting at Poonch and asked authorities to allot the tender and start work of GDC Mandi.
After some days, the tender was allotted to the contractor through PWD department with the cost of Rs 14.22 crore for the construction of road and building of GDC Mandi.
Today, the road work was started by the MLA Ajaz Jan. He said the directions have been issued to the contractor to do the work on war footing so that college building could also be launched at the earliest.
