POONCH. Dec 10: The long-pending demand of residents of the remote Morda Bachhai area in Surankote tehsil was finally fulfilled today as the construction work on the dilapidated road from Morda Bachhai to Dhundhak was formally kick-started.
Surankote MLA Chaudhary Mohammad Akram cut the ribbon and launched the project, marking the beginning of concrete laying, blacktopping, and the construction of drains and culverts along the route. The road had been in poor condition for nearly two decades, causing immense hardship to residents.
MLA Akram said the demand for the road had been pending for many years, as the stretch connects more than 15 Panchayats. Poor road conditions had been a major hurdle for thousands of people in their daily travel.
Executive Engineer, R&B Imtiyaz Mir informed that the project will cost Rs 80 lakh, and the road will be strengthened with a concrete layer, bitumen surfacing, and durable drainage and culvert structures to ensure long-term sustainability.
The commencement of work has brought a wave of joy among the locals. Villagers Abdul Aziz and Anwar Ahmad said the damaged road had severely affected their daily life, but they are now hopeful that once completed, the new road will put an end to their longstanding difficulties.
