MLA calls on GOC 10 Infantry Division, discusses issues of border residents

AKHNOOR, Mar 12: MLA Akhnoor, Mohan Lal Bhagat today called on the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 10 Infantry Division and discussed various issues concerning the residents of border areas of Akhnoor and Chamb constituencies.
During the meeting, the MLA raised the issue of pending rent of land belonging to local residents which is under the possession of the Army in parts of Akhnoor and Chamb Assembly segments.
He requested that the long pending rent be released at the earliest or the matter be resolved through a one-time settlement.
Mohan Lal also highlighted that in Chamb Assembly constituency, some agricultural land of farmers falls within the Army fencing near the border and urged that the affected farmers should be provided adequate compensation to address their concerns.
The MLA further brought to the notice of the Army authorities the difficulties being faced by youth from newly created tehsils in appearing for recruitment in the Indian Army and Territorial Army.
He specifically mentioned areas including Pargwal, Maira Mandrian, Chowki Choura, Khour-Balli and Jourian, stating that youth from these regions are facing certain administrative issues which need to be addressed.
The discussion also covered steps taken after the recent floods and the need for long-term flood protection and prevention measures in vulnerable areas.
The MLA further stressed that the issues of border residents require priority attention and the Army authorities assured their positive cooperation in addressing the concerns raised during the meeting.
