Rajouri, Jan 23: Strongly criticizing the GMC Jammu authorities for its alleged ‘poor role’ in handling the patients shifted from Badhaal in Rajouri and their deaths one by one, MLA Budhal and leader of the National Conference, Javed Iqbal Choudhary has urged the Government to declare a medical emergency in light of a critical health crisis affecting Rajouri district.

Highlighting the alarming situation, he termed it a “humanitarian crisis” and called for immediate government intervention to prevent further loss of lives.
Addressing a crowded press conference at Rajouri today, MLA Budhal stressed the need for urgent measures, stating, “The gravity of the situation demands a Medical emergency to save lives. The government must act decisively to address this crisis.”
The District administration Rajouri has already declared Baddal village a containment zone and enforced prohibitory orders to limit public and private gatherings.
The MLA expressed dissatisfaction over the handling of patients at Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital Jammu, citing alleged mismanagement. He called for critically ill patients to be shifted to PGI Chandigarh for better treatment.
“The situation at GMC Jammu is dire. While one patient transferred to PGI Chandigarh is stable, others at GMC remain in critical condition. Immediate evacuation of all critical patients to Chandigarh is imperative,” the MLA asserted.
Choudhary further demanded the deployment of an air-ambulance in Rajouri or Jammu to facilitate swift medical evacuations. “Timely access to advanced healthcare is crucial to saving lives. An air ambulance must be stationed in the region to prevent unnecessary delays,” Choudhary added.
Senior NC leader also criticized inefficiencies arising from the dual administrative control in Jammu and Kashmir, which he said are delaying effective responses to the crisis. He raised concerns about the delay in processing samples, collected by Central teams, emphasizing the need for faster testing to determine the cause of the mysterious illness. “The strained relations between the Centre and the State are compounding public suffering. Immediate cooperation is needed to resolve this crisis,” the MLA remarked.
While criticizing higher authorities for their inaction, Choudhary lauded the efforts of the District administration, police, and Health department for their tireless work in managing the situation on the ground. However, he emphasized that additional resources and support from senior government officials is essential to contain the crisis effectively.
Choudhary stressed the need to improve healthcare infrastructure in Rajouri. “This crisis is a stark reminder of the gaps in our healthcare system. The government must act swiftly to upgrade facilities and prevent future tragedies,” he added.
The MLA urged upon the higher authorities in the JKUT and Union Government to take all the affective measures to save lives and restore public confidence.
