KATHUA, Dec 11: Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Bani (Kathua), Dr Rameshwar Singh has urged the Union Government to sanction Chhattergalla Tunnel to ensure round- the- year traffic movement on Pathankote-Basohli-Bani-Bhaderwah-Doda-Kashmir highway.
Dr Singh, who represents a very remote Assembly Constituency of district Kathua, in a press statement today said that for the last about two decades, the people of this entire belt are demanding construction of a tunnel at Chhattergalla Pass on Seoj Dhar, between Bani and Bhaderwah Sub Divisions, which remains snow clad during 3-4 months in winters.
With the heavy snowfall on this axis of Seoj Dhar, the road connectivity between Basohli-Bani and Bhaderwah-Doda remains snapped. The people of both the sides are left to face lot of difficulties. For the last more than 12 years Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, who represents our Lok Sabha Constituency has assured several times the early construction of 6 kms long Chhattergalla Tunnel by GREF (BRO). But no progress has been seen till date on this project. He said the people still have high hopes on the Member Parliament from Kathua-Udhampur-Doda Constituency with regard to his promise for Chhattergalla Tunnel.
The MLA regretted that few months ago, the Union Government sanctioned Tunnels at Pir Ki Galli on Mughal Road, Sinthon Top between Kishtwar and Kokernag, Rajdhan Pass and two other places in Kashmir but this vital tunnel was ignored. He demanded that this tunnel must be taken on priority by the Union Government seeing its importance as per Defence point of view. He sought the intervention of Union Minister in the PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh in this regard.
