AIZWAL, Sep 12: Mizoram government has rolled out extensive security measures for the much-anticipated event on Saturday, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Bairabi-Sairang Railway Line, marking the first-ever rail connection between Mizoram and the rest of India.
The grand ceremony will take place at the ‘Aizawl Lammual’ (formerly Assam Rifles ground), with the public being invited to witness this historic milestone.
Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to arrive at Lengpui Airport, located about 37 kilometres west of Aizawl, at 9 am.
From there, he will fly to the Thuampui helipad in Aizawl by helicopter, weather permitting. His convoy will then proceed to Aizawl Lammual for the inauguration ceremony. In the event of bad weather, the Prime Minister will travel by road from Lengpui to Aizawl.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate the 51.38-kilometre Bairabi-Sairang railway line, a crucial infrastructure project linking Mizoram’s capital with the broader Indian railway network. Alongside this, Modi will flag off the Aizawl-Delhi Rajdhani Express, Aizawl-Kolkata Express, and Aizawl-Guwahati Express. Additionally, two new educational institutions will be launched, and six key development projects will be unveiled at the public gathering.
In response to the heightened security needs, Aizawl district police have imposed strict measures around the venue. Access to the Assam Rifles ground, where the event will be held, will be restricted to security personnel only.
Furthermore, Aizawl’s Deputy Commissioner has issued a directive prohibiting the use of remote-controlled drones and aerial cameras across the district until September 15.
Following the event, the Prime Minister will depart from Mizoram via Lengpui Airport.
