Misusing RTI Act

Right to Information is to be exercised freely but with discretion and within limits which are beyond settling personal grievances or submitting applications which are frivolous and vexatious in nature but were going to consume precious time and ”diversion of resources” . Central Information Commission has rightly held this considered view while disposing of rather dismissing complaints of this nature filed by a Jammu resident.
It is to be seen to be appreciated that treating the RTI just as a political platform or a mode to give vent to one’s feelings in respect of some psychological and unwarranted apprehensions is uncalled for which was going to defeat the very purpose of the RTI Act. There should also be given no room to the temptation to become a habitual complainant even with filing of multiple RTI applications. In such a case, the CIC has pointed towards judgments passed by the Supreme Court of India that filing frivolous and vexatious complaints is an abuse of the RTI process.
