Missing person found dead; family protests alleging murder

RAJOURI, Mar 18: After a missing person was found dead under mysterious circumstances, family members of the deceased and locals held a strong protest demanding probe.
The deceased, identified as Mohammad Mustaq, son of Mian Gorai, father of 4 children, had gone missing on February 29 from Karuliya village under Kalakote Police Station in Rajouri district. The body was recovered under suspicious circumstances from a local river in Chingus area of Rajouri on Sunday.
Soon after the dead body was brought at Kalakote on Monday, the family members of the deceased and other people of Kalakote started protesting. They kept the body on road and blocked Rajouri- Kalakote road.
DDC member Rameshwar Thakur, senior social worker Tazeem Gujjar and many other social workers and leaders of various political parties joined the protest and raised slogans against the District Administration and police, pleading for speedy justice.
The protesting family members said that the person remained missing for 18 days, but the police neither investigated the matter nor arrested anyone for questioning, due to which his body was found after 18 days. The family members termed it a case of brutal murder and said that the police should investigate in a fair and professional manner so that the father of four children and his family could get justice. The protesting people also demanded a Government job and financial help for the deceased’s wife.
After about three hours of protest, ADC Kalakote Tanveer Ahmed Khan reached the spot and assured that the police would investigate impartially and if it is a case of murder, the killers will not be spared at any cost. ADC also announced compensation of Rs one lakh as financial assistance to the family of the deceased. The police also assured that there will be a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter. After this the family members ended the protest.
