Missing GATE aspirant found dead in canal

JAMMU, June 17: A 23-year-old engineering student, who went missing from his residence on Monday, was found dead in a canal at Dhadap area here falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Satwari.
Aditya Pal Singh son of Keerat Singh of Tikri, Simbal Camp, Miran Sahib, tehsil RS Pura, district Jammu, went missing from his residence on Monday, a police official said.
After his car was found parked alongside a canal in Dhadap area, his family members lodged a missing report at Police Post Gadigarh today, following which a search operation was started by the local police, SDRF and NDRF, he said.
The police official further said that after hectic efforts, the body of the missing student was recovered from the canal around 6:05 PM.
He said the body was handed over to its legal heirs for performing the last rites after completing the legal formalities.
According to the father of the deceased, his son was upset over withholding of his Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) examination result.
After fleeing his residence, he said, his son had sent a voice note to a friend, telling the latter about his disappointment over the withholding of the GATE result.
However, police have initiated inquest proceedings to ascertain the exact reasons behind the death of the young man.
