HYDERABAD, Jun 3 : Telangana Tourism Minister Jupalli Krishnarao on Tuesday clarified that around Rs. 30 crore was spent on organizing the Miss World pageant, through which Telangana showcased its greatness to the world.
Of the total cost, Rs 21 crore came from sponsors and the remaining Rs 9 crores was the actual cost of the government, Jupalli said in a press conference along with Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Secretariat here.
The Miss World 2025 competition, held in Hyderabad to promote Telangana’s tourism, culture, and traditions, was a great success, he claimed, and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to making the Miss World event an unprecedented triumph.
He noted that the event provided excellent promotion for tourism, handicrafts, and handloom products, introducing the world to Telangana’s culture, traditions, and culinary habits.
Contestants, Miss World organization representatives, and media personnel also expressed their happiness with the organization and hospitality of the event, he said.
Instead of praising the government, the opposition parties have criticized the state government for organizing the Miss World pageants, the Minister alleged and said that agreements are in place for an additional income of Rs. 10 to 11 crore.
Expressing anger over the spreading of false propaganda about the Miss World event by the opposition parties, the Tourism Minister said that former Ministers K T Rama Rao and Harish Rao challenged them to explain where Rs. 200 crore was spent on the Miss World pageants.
We are ready for any debate on the Miss World expenditure either at BRS party’s Telangana Bhavan or at Abids Chowrastha, the Minister challenged.
He alleged that over Rs. 115 crores were spent just on tourism promotions during the BRS regime.
He mentioned that such a grand event was conducted splendidly with reasonable expenses.
He also alleged that their (BRS) own newspapers, media, and social media spread falsehoods and engaged in malicious propaganda over the event.
Refuting opposition claims that contestants were given 30 tolas of gold, he also refuted the claim that each plate of food at the Chowmahalla Palace feast cost Rs. 1 lakh, clarifying that the actual cost per plate was only Rs. 8,200.
Minister Ponnam Prabhakar stated that his government has taken the Miss World competition very seriously and successfully organized it, but opposition parties are unable to accept.
He expressed anger that unnecessary issues are being raised to divert public attention and condemned the spreading of falsehoods for political gain.
