JAMMU, June 24:Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee has urged the Governor who is the Chancellor of the Jammu University to intervene in to the issue of enhancement of the duration of B. Ed. & M. Ed. Courses from one year to two years.
JKPCC president Ghulam Ahmed Mir has sought the attention of the Governor (Chancellor) over the growing resentment amongst the students and youth in view of the disparity over the different duration of these courses by the Kashmir and Jammu Universities besides different percentage of marks for eligibility to the B.Ed. course.
He was reacting to the protests by the students and youth over the decision to enhance the duration of these courses from one year to two years offered by the University of Jammu, whereas the duration of these courses in University of Kashmir remains one year only. Similarly the eligibility percentage of marks for B.Ed. course in Jammu University is stated to be fifty percent (50%) while it is to forty five percent (45%) in Kashmir University.
Mr. Mir said that there has to be uniformity in the same educational courses offered by the two Universities in the state otherwise it appears to be unjustified on the face of it giving rise to avoidable unrest amongst the aspirants. In view of this the Governor who is Chancellor of both the Universities is requested to intervene for review and putting on hold the decision of Jammu University in this regard, he added.
