Mir recalls role of Pandits in founding Congress

JAMMU, Apr 17: Mainta-ining that Kashmir is incomplete with out Pandits, Pradesh Congress chief and former Minister, Ghulam Ahmed Mir today recalled the role of Kashmiri Pandits in strengthening the Party in the State as well as in the country.
Addressing a public rally at Jagti Township near here today, Mir expressed the hope that the community will perform the same role in future too in strengthening the Party in the State.
Tracing roots of Congress in Pandits, he said the community has performed the great role in strengthening the Congress not only in J&K but entire country.  He recalled the services of former AICC president Moti Lal Nehru, former Prime Ministers Jawahar Lal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.
Mir also highlighted the various steps taken by previous UPA Government at Centre and NC -Congress coalition in the State in solving various basic problems of the Pandits.
Mir took a dig at the present State as well as Union Governments for brining the displaced Pandits under National Food Security Act (NFSA) saying that being the migrants their ration is debited to security related expenses and NFSA can’t be applied to them as the community is leading a refugees life for last 27 years.
He announced full support to the community from his party in their struggle against the implementation of NFSA on migrants and said that Congress will take up this issue in State Legislature and if need be to Parliament also.
Addressing the gathering former Revenue Minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla recalled the steps taken by the previous UPA Government and State coalition in solving the basic problems of the displaced Pandits.
He said construction of Jagti township and TRTs at Purkhoo, Muthi, Buta Nagar and Nagrota was made during the Congress rule to provide a succor to the displaced people who were leading a miserable life in camps till then.
Leader of Congress Legislature  Party and former Minister Rigzin Jora and other former ministers Sham Lal Sharma, Abdul Majid Wani and Mula Ram also addressed the rally.
Chairman Migrant Cell of the Party Hira Lal Pandita while speaking highlighted the various burning issues of displaced people.
The other Congress leaders who spoke at the rally included MLA Shangus Gulzar Ahmed Wani, PCC general secretaries, Manmohan Singh and  Chani Singh,  Youth Congress president, Pranav Shagotra, senior leader, Rajesh Sharma, M N Pandita, vice chairman Migrant Cell, its convener Gh Qadir Bhat, co-convener Shadi Lal Pandita, secretary Avtar Krishan Raina, Kiran Raina and  Chuni Lal Raina (Kandi), Ajay Bharti, Chaman Lal.
