SRINAGAR, July 16: Apni Party senior vice president, Ghulam Hassan Mir today urged the Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha to revisit the decision effecting steep hike in electricity tariff that has added to the burden of a common man in J&K.
Mir remarked that the people in J&K are already suffering from a distressed economic situation and an arbitrary increase in power tariff is totally unbearable.
“Today morning, I received various reports from Gulmarg constituency wherein consumers have been dispatched with the bills showing manifold increase in their normal electricity dues. This is totally an unwarranted decision that has been taken by the power department without taking the sufferings of the people into consideration,” he said.
Mir observed that COVID pandemic has crippled the economy in J&K like any other place in the country and the residents of J&K had already received a blow to their per capita income since early 2019.
“I have appealed to Lt. Governor, Chief Secretary and the concerned Chief Engineer to review such a decision in the interest of J&K people,” Mir said adding that J&K people are not in position to pay such exorbitant fee in present circumstances.
