Srinagar, May 26: In a tragic incident, a brother-sister duo drowned into river Jhelum at North Kashmir’s Sopore Town of Baramulla district today.
An official said 5-year old Falak Majeed and her 12-year old Rashid Majeed were sitting on the banks of River Jhelum. He said the minor girl slipped into the river and her brother in an attempt to save Falak took a boat and jumped in Jhelum but both of them drowned.
The girl drowned while she was washing her feet, said the official and added soon after the incident a huge number of people rushed towards the spot and tried to save the duo but none of them succeeded in their attempt.
He said subsequently the police and Marine Commandos of Army launched a rescue operation to fish out the bodies of the duo and when reports last came in the operation was underway.
